Chat with "The Lone Gunmen" June
15, 1998: Never say never. Against slimmer odds than they would have given on an alien conspiracy, The Lone Gunmen will air Sunday March 4rth in the X-Files's time slot. Can these scene stealing geeks take center stage and survive? Good question. Tune in and find out. The good news is that these are the same guys who've provided technical support and a bit of comic relief for Mulder and Scully throughout the series. The bad news is that the producer doesn't take them especially seriously, playing them for laughs and making themselves caricatures of themselves. On the other hand, the supporting cast has something going for her, in the industrial spy persona of Yves Adele Harlow played by Zuleikha Robinson. Ms. Robinson is a course the Graduate would happily go back to school for. Of course it would have to be the school of hard knocks, because this lady isn't looking to steal any hearts, just industrial secrets.
Well, it's unlikely that The Lone Gunmen, are going to survive. It's a tough world out there and their owners don't respect them. It's a pity, because the characters have a lot of appeal, if only they were allowed to come off as more reasonable. Of course they've been playing fourth banana to a guy who's obsessed by aliens for years so how reasonable can they be? It's a pity, cause I really like the cast, and even the concept, but playing the Lone Gunmen for laughs plays us all for fools...which they aren't and neither are we. |
