Kurt Vonnegut (November 11, 1922 – April 11, 2007) by ( 12 April 2007 / ) - Kurt Vonnegut, whose twisted Twainian sensibility foreshadowed Slipstream by taking on typically SF topics and rending them for other readers (and us as well), died from the after effects of a fall, which left him with "irreversible brain injuries."

Though he says in "Fates Worse Than Death: An Autobiographical Collage," he "finally stopped laughing at his own agony and that of those around him. He denounced life on this planet as a crock. He died." those of us who grew up with copies of Welcome to the Monkeyhouse, Player Piano or The Sirens of Titan in our jean's pocket learned from the author that while life was indeed a crock, you might as well take joy where you found it, offer kindness where you could, and find humor in the rest. So it goes.
