Anne Mccaffrey -- 1 April 1926 – 21 November 2011 by (SFRevu 25 November 2011 / ) - From Los Angeles Times Obituary: Anne McCaffrey, a fantasy fiction writer whose vision of an interstellar alliance between humans and dragons spawned two dozen "Dragonriders of Pern" novels, has died in Ireland. She was 85.

Her publisher, Random House, said McCaffrey died of a stroke Monday at her rural residence south of Dublin, her home for four decades. She christened her self-designed house Dragonhold.

Solaris Books announces it has acquired the sequel to Helix by Eric Brown by ( 02 November 2011 / ) - Helix Wars will be delivered in the spring of 2012, for publication in autumn next year. The agent was John Jarrold, and the deal was for UK and US rights.

Published by Solaris in 2007 and reprinted several times since, Helix was another breathtaking leap into the unknown by this master of the imagination, whose Kings of Eternity was published to widespread acclaim by Solaris earlier this year and who is also creating the new Weird Space shared-world series for sister imprint Abaddon Books.

Scammers Are At It Again by C.J. Cherryh (Barnes & Noble 01 November 2011 / ) - Scammers are at it again: Amazon booted these guys, and they're now at B&N: protest this, please. They use any writer's name and rep, collect a bunch of semi-relevant Wiki articles, then put it up on an e-book house as a book entitled 'the collected works of' fill-in-author. If you're a writer, search your name on Amazon and B&N and see if there are any books on there you didn't write. Search the works of departed SFWA members, too. -- Posted on Facebook by C.J. Cherryh

Wild Cards Headed to the Movies by ( 01 Nov 2011 / ) - After more than 20 novels, written by a consortium of some of SF's great writers, with George R.R. Martin and Melinda Snodgrass as editors for the series' duration, it's finally happened. Wild Cards will be adapted into movie form.
