Equinox (Criterion Collection) by Dennis Muren, Mark McGee,
and Jack Woods (Dirs.) (Criterion 20 June, 2006 / $39.95) - This campy 1969 Lovecraftian monster movie, a minor landmark of independent cinema and a beloved cult favorite, comes belatedly to DVD – in a welcome but utterly unexpected Criterion 2-disc special edition! (see review)

Night Watch by Timur Bekmambatov (Dir.) (20th Century Fox 20 June, 2006 / $27.98) - This big-budget urban dark fantasy from Russia, the first in a coming trilogy, is a terrifically entertaining and rewarding piece of work, that left me actively excited to see the sequels. (see review)

Superman Returns by Bryan Singer (Dir.) (Warner Bros. Pictures June 28, 2006 / ) - When astronomers find Krypton's location in a distant solar system, Superman leaves Earth to visit his homeworld -- leaving many confused and upset by his abrupt disappearance. He returns to find out things have changed quite a bit in his absence... (see review)

The Quiet Earth by Geoff Murphy (Dir.) (Anchor Bay 13 June, 2006 / $24.98) - It's nothing but a pleasure to review this bona fide lost SF classic: a 1985 post-apocalyptic thriller from New Zealand, concerning the efforts of the last man on earth to prevent the destruction of the universe as we know it, and/or the possible creation of a new one. (see review)
