Book View Cafe Partners with Smashwords by (Book View Cafe 14 February 2010 / ) - (National)-Book View Café, a digital publishing cooperative for professional authors, today announced it has partnered with Smashwords to distribute Book View's growing ebook catalog, including titles by from such well known authors as Ursula K. LeGuin, Vonda N. McIntyre, Sarah Smith, Seanan McGuire and Laura Anne Gilman.

"Smashwords is taking a truly dynamic approach to ebooks," said Book View Café Project Manager Sarah Zettel. "From the beginning, BVC has promised readers the books they want, when they want them. Smashwords' commitment to delivering multi-format ebooks to a wide variety of major retail outlets and mobile smart phone platforms will help us keep that promise." (more ...)

Kage Baker: 1952 to January 31, 2010 by ( 01 February 2010 / ) - Writer Kage Baker, 57, died at 1:15 a.m. January 31, 2010 of cancer at home in Pismo Beach, CA. Baker was best known for her Company series of time travel novels and stories.

From her sister's blog: Kage's body will go to MedCure, a body donation program working on training surgery students. They will cremate it and return the ashes to me in about 3 weeks. Her ashes will then be scattered half from Catalina Island and half from Plaskett Creek beach near Big Sur. (Source: )

WSFA Small Press Award Committee Announces They Are Accepting Nominations for Stories Published in 2009 by (WSFA 01 February 2010 / ) - The Washington Science Fiction Association (www.wsfa.org) has established a literary award to honor the work done by small presses in promoting and preserving science fiction. The award, now in its forth year, is given annually for short fiction works (17,500 words or fewer) of imaginative literature (e.g., science fiction, fantasy, horror, speculative fiction or like literature) published by a small press. Stories may be nominated by SF authors and small press publishers. Details of the nomination process and contact information can be found at www.wsfasmallpressaward.org.
