AVATAR Is the #1 Movie in North America -- This Time on Blu-ray and DVD by TCFHE Press Release
(TCFHE, Variety.com 26 April 2010 / ) - It took only 4 days for the Blu-ray version of Avatar to sell 2.7 million copies and shatter the record of 2.5 million copies of The Dark Knight which was set in 18 months. This backs up industry assertions that more people are buying Blu-ray players in order to enjoy the superior audio and video quality and take advantage of the fact that Blu-ray discs are more scratch-resistant than DVDs, an important advantage in families with children. Furthermore, the number of studios offering combo packs with both Blu-ray discs and DVDs is increasing. (more ...)

John Andrews (1952-2010) by John Lorentz
( 17 April 2010 / ) - Long-time Portland fan John Andrews passed away last Friday (April 9, 2010) at the age of 58. He'd been fighting muscular dystrophy for many years, but had
in his mobie even when he was no longer able to walk.
John was instrumental in getting Portland fandom off the ground, both as treasurer for the Portland Science Fiction Society and for the early OryCons (personally fronting the money for the first OryCon in 1979, as well as the one-day Science Fiction Symposium that proceeded OryCon in 1978). OSFCI (the non-profit-group behind OryCon) started in his living room, and he kept helping out at Orycon as long as he could. (Last fall's OryCon 32 was the only one he ever missed.)
