It's all my mother's fault. When I was an infant, she used to feed me while watching first run episodes of original Star Trek. Thus from a very early age I learned to associate science fiction with feelings of happiness and well-being. And when I was a little older rather than just sticking with Lyle the Crocodile, Little Bear or Frances the Badger for bedtime stories, my mom would vary the mix with I Robot, The Martian Chronicles, The Hobbit and Narnia. The first science fiction book I read by myself was either Space Cat by Ruthven Todd or Outside by Andre Norton. And science fiction and fantasy have been my preferred choices for reading and viewing pleasure ever since.
