Charles discovered Science Fiction and Fantasy in early grade school when he found copies of Andre Norton's Web of the Witch World and Robert A. Heinlein's Podkayne of Mars in the school library. This led to his reading everything that interested him in the children's Science Fiction section at the nearby public library, after which he began working his way through the adult SF section with the guidance of some friendly librarians. In turn this led to the Classics Illustrated comics, followed quickly by Gold Key, DC, and Marvel. Equally important to Charles were Gerry Anderson's Supercar, Fireball XL-5, Stingray, and Thunderbirds, all in Supermarionation. He has fond memories of wandering up to the line for the evening's last showing of Star Wars on Opening Day and getting in with no trouble (never again). Since 1982, he has attended 23 World Science Fiction Conventions, 1 NASFiC, 2 World Fantasy Conventions, 1 San Diego Comic-Con, and various other local and regional cons. He has served as the Official Masquerade Photographer for 4 Worldcons and has been the Official Convention Photographer (solo, team member, or chief) for 5 Worldcons and 1 World Fantasy Con. Charles began contributing convention photos to SFRevu in 2004 and has been published in Science Fiction Chronicle, Chronicle and Locus magazine as far back as 1997. Now he contributes media reviews to SFRevu and serves as the News Editor for its sister publication TechRevu.
