Jack had hoped to show Rapunzel that he had skills and was a take-charge kind of guy. But when they finally get to the city, Jack's old neighborhood is destroyed, his mother's bakery is closed and no one wants to talk. It seems that the giant Blunderboar is in charge and his mother is being held captive and forced to only bake for Blunderboar.

While Jack wanted to show his town to Rapunzel, he was worried that she might find out about his past. Now he has to find some of his old pals, save his mother, and the city, and keep Rapunzel from finding out that he's a bad guy. That's a lot for anyone to deal with but luckily, Jack and Rapunzel find some interesting allies.

Once again Shannon and Dean Hale have created a fast paced and exciting story for their characters. Nathan Hale's drawing are a delight for the eyes. Not only do the illustrations help set the mood and move the story line along, but they also have detail that is informative and occasionally very funny. There's the serious nature of the plot and yet there is plenty of whimsy and fun to keep readers of all ages turning the pages.

Calamity Jack definitely lives up to the promise of Rapunzel's Revenge to deliver an interesting, well-told tale that is well-worth reading.
