Al Sarrantonio has put together some fine anthologies in recent years - I particularly enjoyed 999 (2001) and Flights (2004), both of which featured an absolutely stellar line-up including Neil Gaiman who had pieces in both of those previous collections. Gaiman is featured in this new collection too, entitled Stories , but as well as contributing, Gaiman shares the cover credit with Sarrantonio, and such is Power of the Gaiman name and brand now, that Stories is easily the biggest and most high profile release of the month. Other names feature too of course, some of whom are not normally to be found in the company of some of the greatest proponents of genre fiction. A fabulous collection and highly recommended.
"One hell of a huge book of great, exciting stories which will become a uniting force for readers of all forms of imaginative fiction. Rather than being dictated by genre, for co-editors Gaiman and Sarrantonio there is only one true distinction in fiction: the one dividing realistic and imaginative fiction. STORIES is a collection of the very best original fiction from some of the most imaginative writers in the world, as well as a showcase for some of fiction's newer stars.
