Basically, One Drowsy Dragon is a counting book. Each two-page spread has a number of dragons doing something that causes lots of noise and the drowsy dragon continually asking that it be quieter.

The colorful pictures are entertaining for young children and clear enough to see what the noisy dragons are doing. Younglings can count to see if the number of dragons on the page actually matches the one in the text.

The surprise is what happens when the drowsy dragon finally gets to sleep because the noisy dragons have all worn themselves out and now they want to sleep too.
