Bones. We all have them. Some of us have broken one, or in some way come to appreciate that they hold us up and keep us from flopping around like jello. Steve Jenkins, in his book, Bones, gives us some information about our bones and their similarities and differences from the bones of other vertebrates.

From the skull on the front cover to the skeleton on the back, this is a book about bones. Colorful backgrounds for high contrast with the various bones displayed in, what else, bone color. Each double page spread has a small note in the lower right hand page letting you know if the bones pictured are actual size, different scales, or the scale they are shown in.

Readers learn there are 27 bones in the human hand and 26 in the foot. There's information on how bones are used to protect us and support us. There are even some full page pull-outs when more room is necessary.

All in all it's a beautiful book colorful, artful, and instructive for young readers and even for those who still enjoy being read to. Bones would be the perfect book for a child who wishes to learn more about their own skeleton and how it is like and different from other animals.
