Garrie, a reckoner, deals with ghosts and their mischief. She placates them, threatens them, sends them on, or destroys them. Members of her team, Lucia, an empath, and Quinn, an electronics whiz and data researcher, assist her. However, they discover more than they bargain for in Sedona. Local sensitives and those reluctant to share information complicate the task of placating the local ghosts. A band of local residents led by a megalomaniac with some power use sex to gain more ethereal powers. Their efforts rile the ghosts who then attack Garrie because they believe she refuses to help them. Identifying the real problems and finding a solution tests Garrie's abilities to their fullest. Sexual tensions between Garrie and Trevarr add to the mix. She gained more power when he saved her life in The Reckoner, and she has yet to understand fully the changes and how to control her enhanced abilities. Too many people are hiding information. Garrie knows Quinn's friend Robin is not telling all she knows and a contest of wills results between the two women. My favorite character is the non-cat Sklayne. His personality and unique powers add to the adventure. Lucia must grow and exercise all her abilities while Quinn has to decide where his loyalties lie. Circumstances force Garrie to face her own and Trevarr's needs. Durgin has created a rip-roaring adventure with a climax that promises another book to come. Humor abounds. Those who haven't read the first novel may find things somewhat confusing at times, especially about Trevarr.
