by Lynsay SandsReview by Gayle Surrette Avon Mass Market Paperback ISBN/ITEM#: 9780061894572 Date: 01 December 2010 List Price $7.99 Amazon US / Amazon UK / Show Official Info / Sam is still hesitant to be turned unless all her sisters find a lifemate among the immortals. Jo is now settled with Nicholas. Once Alex is found a lifemate, she'll be turned knowing she won't have to leave her sisters. Luckily, Marguerite believes that Cale Valens would be the perfect match and has sent him to meet Alex. Sounds great since Marguerite has a great track record in finding lifemates. But Alex is dedicated to her career and is about to open a second restaurant. She has no time for dating and no wish to get involved. Cale is going to have to woo her, but he hasn't eaten food for over a thousand years, and he'll need to pretend to be a chef in order to get close to her. Can he manage to build a relationship on such a lie? Hungry For You is by turns laugh out loud funny and an embarrassing reminder of what it is like to try to get to know someone who is trying to keep you at arms length.
Of course no Argeneau Novel romance can ever run smoothly. Cale's initial meeting with Alex is just as her chef quits and she's desperate to find a replacement. Bricker volunteers Cale as a trained chef. Problem is Cale can't cook and hasn't eaten food in over a thousand years -- he doesn't even know how to operate a microwave and the smell of food makes him ill. Of course that changes almost immediately as Alex is his lifemate. Now the problem is to win her love. But first he has to get close to her so he has a chance to break through the wall she's erected around her heart to keep anyone from coming too close. Add into the mix that Alex's new restaurant, on the other side of town from the current one, has been having one problem after another and Cale thinks it's sabotage. He needs to stay near to find out who is out to ruin her business before someone gets killed. These books are romances wrapped in a mystery so the characters have a reason to work together, get to know each other, and fall in love. The fact that one of them is an immortal that is pretty close to the classic vampire myth makes getting the human to accept them as they are is just that much more difficult. Sands manages to balance the mystery with the romance and thread the whole thing together with an interesting dollop of humor and a side of steamy sex. If that's your cup of tea, you'll really enjoy these books. While the characters carry across novels, each one can be read as a stand alone as there is enough background information throughout to bring a new reader up to speed. Take a break from the winter cold and warm up with a steamy romance. |
