by Carole Nelson DouglasReview by Gayle Surrette Pocket Mass Market Paperback ISBN/ITEM#: 9781439167816 Date: 30 November 2010 List Price $7.99 Amazon US / Amazon UK / Show Official Info / Delilah Street and Ric Montoya are ready for a break from the machinations of the various factions in Vegas. It's time for a road trip. What better destination than Delilah's Kansas stomping grounds. It's time for Delilah to investigate her past and put it behind her -- well that's the plan anyway.
Delilah Street is an orphan and was raised in group and foster homes, trying to avoid being a vampire's snack and getting enough education to get out on her own. She was an investigative reporter until a weather witch forced her out of her job, which allowed her the freedom to move to Vegas. Now she wants to know where she really came from and what happened in those blank memory spaces in her childhood. In Vampire Sunrise, Ric Montoya dealt with many of his childhood traumas after a very tough case and his rescue by Delilah. Now it's her turn. In Silver Zombie, we learn more about the new abilities that Ric gained in the last book. Delilah and Ric explore the boundaries of their relationship as Ric stands by her as she learns about some traumatic incidents from her past. Then they're stumbling into a mystery that seems to have a link to Ric's childhood. As with all the books, the action is fast paced, the dialogue is witty and sometimes biting and often humorous. This time the allusions and much of the story have connections to the Wizard of Oz. Why wouldn't it, it is Kansas after all. The series is still fresh and there are many more possibilities for new stories as Delilah explores her past and deals with her present.
