The Spooky Wheels On The Bus
by J. Elizabeth MillsCover Artist: Ben Mantle Review by Gayle Surrette Cartwheel Books Paperback ISBN/ITEM#: 9780545174800 Date: 01 July 2010 List Price $3.99 Amazon US / Amazon UK / Show Official Info / The Spooky Wheels on the Bus is a basic holiday themed counting book -- this time for Halloween. Colorfully illustrated by Ben Mantle, the pictures are bright and stylized to be non-threatening and fun more than frightening for children. The official information on this books says that it was written with the song, The Wheels on the Bus... as an inspiration. (See YouTube Video with Roger Daltry.) Once you know the tune, you'll find that Mills did indeed keep the same cadence to the book so that you can sing the tune with the words in The Spooky Wheels on the Bus. The counting goes from one to ten and than ends back at the refrain for one again. This could be a lot of fun for adults and young children. A great teaching tool for numbers in a pre-school classroom or library children's event. One teeny tiny thing that bugged me, spooky wheels are only mentioned in the title -- there are glowing wheels on the bus. I was disappointed to not get my spooky wheels -- though I guess the whole bus was spooky.
