The Worlds of Honor collect short stories that fill in the early life of Honor Harrington and those around her. This collection has 3 stories, one technical paper on ship armor, and an appendix related to ship armor.

“Ruthless” by Jane Lindskold tells the tale of a kidnapping of Ruth, the daughter of Judith Newland. Now a kidnapping wouldn’t seem to be a big deal, but Judith is a friend of Michael Winton, a prince of Manticore. The kidnappers are hoping to use their friendship as leverage to hurt the Royal Family.

“An Act of War” by Timothy Zahn tells the tale of the Peep’s attempt to create a war between Manticore and the Andermani Empire. A simple plan is made more complex by a true believer.

“Let’s Dance” by David Weber follow’s Honor Harrington as Captain of the Hawkwing. Honor is chasing slavers and pirates in the Silesian Confederacy. This is a prototypical Honor story.

“An Introduction to Modern Starship Armor Design” is written as a technical paper and relates the armor and specifications of starships around the period of Honor Harrington. The appendix that follows relates to this paper. It is an interesting piece that shares a lot of the nitty gritty of star ships without having an infodump in one of the other stories or novels.

This is great background for fans of the Honorverse. The best and longest story was by Weber, but it is also the one that gets to follow Honor, and that is what fans enjoy. Fans of the series will not be disappointed. Those not familiar with the series may struggle with the characters and interplay that have developed over the course of several novels and short story collections.
