So, she's slowly returning to work and sorting out her life and feelings. Her first case is to do some pre-trail screening interviews for Nanette Grover. The person she needs to interview lives on the Olympic Peninsula. When she arrives it's pretty obvious that something is wrong. There are a lot of ghosts and they're not normal – Harper is the only one who can help, but first she has to identify the problem. There's a lot going on in Downpour. Harper's out of her territory in an area she doesn't know well. She's back on her feet but still not one hundred percent. The magic being used isn't what she's used to seeing in the grey either. She's also feeling a bit cut off from all the people she's come to rely on. And she's got some fences to mend with Michael Novak, Ben and Mara, and Quinton. This particular story is much like the others in that we're mostly in Harper's thoughts. We get the clues and can make our own determinations as Harper gets the information. There's a lot to take in with history, Native American beliefs and legends, and the usual problems in the grey. Nothing's better than a rip-roaring adventure, a mystery, an interesting mix of legend, myth, betrayal, prejudice, and justice as opposed to what's legal. The characters are well developed and not just clones with different names – each is a very real individual with their own backstory, tics, and characteristics. The world is just a step to the side of our own and thus solid and real. If you haven't read Richardson before, treat yourself to a Greywalker Novel. I've enjoyed this series so far and Downpour didn't disappoint. The only problem now is the wait for the next book telling us what's going on in Harper Blaine's life.
