Captain Reddy is moving the allied forces east to protect the mainland colonies from the forces of the Holy Dominion. With the Walker and the Navy of New Britain, it shouldn’t be too big a problem. If it was easy though, there wouldn’t be a story. The forces of the Holy Dominion have been readying a new weapon, one that will change the course of war and technology in this alternate.

The Grik also have a technology based advance they are planning to spring on the allied forces. This new old, simple technology is not expected and has a devastating impact where it is used. They even have a potential ally. The mission to enlist their help is one of the minor storylines here that will see a payoff in upcoming novels. I look forward to seeing how these people came to be on this world.

The Japanese are trying to survive the Grik society by being useful. Their knowledge and skills are being used to push technological advances. But not all of them have accepted their lot in life. The move to escape is a new plotline that will also lead to big changes.

One of the things I want to learn more about is the mechanics of the portals that open onto this new world. Another issue is the nature of the portals. Are they one way? Or do they also open to other parallel worlds. I know there have been some hints during discussions, but I look for a clearer answer.

This is part of a long series and is not the point to start reading. Interested readers should start with the first of the series Destroyermen: Into the Storm. There is no time like the present to start reading this series, so if you are new, give it a whirl.

The world that Taylor created is growing as each new novel is published. There is a lot more of this world to explore. Most of the Americas are unknown as Europe. Although it is Lemurian lands, time spent in Australia would also be interesting. I look forward to seeing more development with the next book in the series, Destroyermen: Iron Gray Sea.
