James Stark has escaped Hell, fought Angels, made friends with demons, killed more vampires and evil creatures than you can imagine, and has met God. Meeting God was not quite what he expected, especially since the old guy, just a fragment of his original self, sent Stark back to Hell. But Stark is a survivor, if anything, and he's killed his way to the top.

Also by Richard Kadrey:
Sandman Slim:
* Sandman Slim
* Kill the Dead
* Aloha from Hell
* Devil Said Bang
Other Books:
* Devil in the Dollhouse
* Kill City Blues The Dominion:
* Butcher Bird

Now he's Satan. And he's cleaning house. Or trying to, since Hell is an enormous bureaucracy, and getting things done either involves killing everyone involved or attending a lot of meetings. And the problem with killing everyone is that is just leads to more meetings. But Stark has a plan and he intends for it to be successful. If it works, he's back in LA, Hell has a new Satan, God gets put in his place, and the newest evil to threaten the world also gets taken care of.

This is the fourth book in the Sandman Slim series and Kadrey has lost none of his sarcastic, profane wit. If anything it's just gotten better. The novel has all of the regular characters while adding one or two new ones. The pacing is as frantic as ever and the dialogue and banter between characters is cutting and sharp. The plot is convoluted, the stakes high, and yet it's as much fun as you can possibly have considering everything is in the balance.

Kadrey captures Stark's hopeless optimism and need to use violence to solve everything to keep things moving at a pace that is nothing less than frantic. Great fun and the only remorse you will feel is when you take notice that the end of the book is approaching. Talk about mixed feelings.

I really like this series. I've liked it from the first book and I like it even more now. This is just plain fun to read. Richard Kadrey captures it all, grinds it up and sends it back with more dark humor than anyone should expect. If you like dark, paranormal fantasy then you need to get your hands on this series. Incredibly well done and highly recommended.
