Clarkesworld #75 is here with stories by Sandra McDonald, Thoraiya Dyer, and Lisa L. Hannett, along with many other features.

Clarkesworld #75 is here with another good issue.

The first story is "Your Final Apocalypse" by Sandra McDonald. An omniscient narrator tells us of a 'you', a law student dissatisfied with his life who plans an escape to Australia. He is relaxing on a lawn, enjoying the sight of a pretty girl. We get a look at his family, far away. Something happens to all of them, but an entity described as the Casual Visitor has his own game to play. Interesting piece.

The second story is "The Wisdom of Ants" by Thoraiya Dyer. In a future where some catastrophe has relegated mankind to a primitive existence, our narrator is a young woman whose mother is head of the clan. Most of the men have died in a war with the "wireminds" (cyborgs?). Metal-eating ants (different species eating different metals) have made life difficult. Poisons made to kill the ants have failed but have made other animals toxic. Humans are in clans in conflict with each other. Our narrator must find a way to save her people when she becomes head of the clan. A well-realized world makes this a good story.

The third story is "Sweet Subtleties" by Lisa L. Hannett. Una seems to be a soul inhabiting a series of candy women brought out at banquets for desert. The confectioner is Javier, the original Una's husband who compares her to Helen, the wife of Menelaus. We see her perform through two banquets and then to be brought to one given by the father and mother of Una, with different results, Beautifully written. Like the sweets described, this is a treat.

The stories in Clarkesworld are all something special, check them out (see link at the top of this article).
