Here is the original novelette, "Rocket Ship to Hell" by Jeffrey Ford, available at the website. This short story was acquired and edited for by consulting editor Ann VanderMeer.

Every month, Tor posts stories on their website (see link at top of this article), excerpts from novels, comics and articles. They are free so I recommend you check them out. Each new story will be reviewed separately. This was posted on July 20, 2013.

"Rocket Ship to Hell" by Jeffrey Ford -- Our narrator (who might as well be Ford himself) relates something that happened to him at the Millennium Philcon in 2001. He was in a bar with just him and the lady bartender when "an old, heavyset guy in a floppy brown suit and white shirt, yellow tie loosened to the point of uselessness, comes in and introduces himself as Cole Werber, a science fiction writer who had published a bunch of short stories and a novel you can't find anywhere" called Rocket Ship to Hell.

Then he tells then the story behind that. More I won't say except that this was one heck of a good read
