"Wakulla Springs" by Andy Duncan and Ellen Klages -+- This is a long novella, almost novel length. It opens in 1941, when a African-American young girl named Mayola begins working at a hotel in Wakulla Springs. Florida. They are filming a Tarzan movie with Johnny Weismuller nearby and something happens to change her life.

The next part picks up in 1953 when they are filming underwater scenes for The Creature from the Black Lagoon there and Ricou Browning (who played the swimming Gill-Man is impressed by the natural swimming abilities of Mayola's son, Levi. Two more sequences follow, one in the late 60s and the last in present day.

The story creates good characters in Mayola and Levi and illustrates the segregation of the 40s and 50s, but the fantastic element is very slight, consisting of a few paragraphs in section three and the last paragraph of the story.
