This is a beautiful volume of space vistas and visionary space stations, futuristic cities and, of course, space ships. The artwork is stunning with the various ships that we have seen in Star Trek: Enterprise, Star Trek: Voyager, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Star Trek and Star Trek: The Next Generation. Not all the ships depicted are those of the Federation but also include Vulcan, Romulan, and other ships.

All the illustrations are full color. The set up of the two page spread have the quote or short paragraph of description or scene setting on the left hand page and the right hand page is a full page illustration in full color that in nearly all instances can be said to relate to the passage on the left hand side. There's also a watermark-type background image on the left hand page that clues the reader in on which instance of Star Trek this set of artwork relates to.

This is an amazing coffee table type book that any fan of the Star Trek universe would love to have. It's the kind of work that you can pick up and put down after flipping through a few pages or sit at length going from cover to cover.

Note that this is an updated version of a previously published Ships of the Line. Since I haven't seen the previous version, I'll just say the publicity material that I received with my copy of this versions says there are 75 additional images which were featured in the Star Trek: Ships of the Line Calendar series. I haven't seen the calendar series either so I totally enjoyed paging through this volume and reading the accompanying text. It's a great way to lose yourself for hours at a time.

Since holiday gift giving season is coming up this is a good choice for a hard-core Star Trek fan who doesn't already have a copy of everything Star Trek.
