Having viewed 'Divergent', the 2014 film based on the first book of Veronica Roth's dystopic "Divergent" trilogy and read the entire trilogy, plus "Four: A Divergent Collection", I was eager to see how 'Insurgent', the film based on the second book of the same name would measure up.

Picking up where Divergent, the film based on the first book of Veronica Roth's dystopic Divergent trilogy left off, Tris, Four, Caleb, Peter, and Marcus travel to Amity, where several surviving members of Abnegation have sought sanctuary from the murderous serum-controlled killers of Dauntless. But when the Erudite and the Dauntless traitors roll into the Amity compound in Caiman Mine Resistant Ambush Protected Vehicles looking for Abnegation survivors, Tris, Four, Caleb, and Susan manage to escape by jumping onto an oncoming train just ahead of a furious Eric and other armed Dauntless.

They discover that they are not alone as a larger number of armed Factionless come out of the shadows, and they fight until Four mentions that he is Tobias Eaton which brings the fighting to a sudden halt. Saying that they have been searching for Tobias Eaton, the Factionless escort them to a Factionless safe zone where they meet the Factionless leader, Evelyn Eaton who had abandoned him as a young child and had been thought to be dead. Evelyn tells Four that he needs to convince the unallied Dauntless to join the Factionless.

Caleb and Susan leave them, heading off to a safe zone where more Abnegation are living, while Tris and Four travel to Candor headquarters where they are arrested and subjected to a truth serum trial. During his trial, Four admits that he joined Dauntless to escape Marcus's abuse, and that he was going to leave Dauntless to join the Factionless after this last class of initiates. But when he saw Tris, he decided to stay and protect her.

Editor's Note: Much more and you'll have all the spoilers. So, see the movie and or read the books.

Granted that this film is based on the middle book of a trilogy and is the second film of four planned, it diverged more from the original source material than the first film. This is an unusual case in that I found that there were elements of the book that I really liked and elements of the film that I really liked and four days after watching the press screening, I still can't say which I prefer more. I will state that I can't wait for Allegiant, Part 1 to hit the screens.
