I'm not sure what it is that causes so many of us to enjoy a rogue -- afterall, what is Indiana Jones but a rogue (one with a profession but a rogue none the less). So, reading the adventures of Basil Fox and Alaric Moebius was entertaining to say the least. The Adventures of Basil and Moebius consists of three stories: The Curse of Spring-Heel Jack, Bloodstone, and The Devil's Handshake.

In The Curse of Spring-Heel Jack, our two characters meet for the first time. Seems that they are both in love with the same women and now they have to team up to rescue her from a character out of legend.

After their first adventure, someone is trying to steal a famous ruby and Basil and Moebius attempt to steal it from the thieves. Then they are hired to find the Bloodstone also called the Stone of Destiny which is believed to be hidden in Scotland -- somewhere -- maybe. Lots of drama from which they barely escape with their lives (after all there is another adventure in this book).

The final story, The Devil's Handshake, is more of the same danger that you'd expect them to find themselves in as they try to gain possession of another mystical object. They really aren't that far off from Indiana Jones except this is Jones crossed with Lovecraft's Cthulhu mythos and far more on the dark side of urban fantasy.

The artwork is moody and pulls the reader into the world of Basil and Moebius, adding to the text of the stories. Indeed the deeds of rogues can be entertaining, especially when the rogues aren't totally bad and desperately need to find a way out of their enforced servitude to a dark figure who is moving out of the background by the final story.

Definitely worth a try as it's solid story telling with interesting characters.
