Welcome to our July 2015 issue. I can't believe half the year is already gone. I have a limited grasp on time and it seems the older I get the faster time passes -- they tell you that when your a child but you never really believe it. I figure by the time I'm really old weeks will pass in the blink of an eye.
This month we have an interview with Ted Kosmatka, as well as a review of his newest novel, The Flicker Men. The interview and book review are by Ernest Lilley.
There's also Sam Tomaino's reviews of short fiction in the Zines and Short Fiction Column. We have reviews of eight magazines (either print or digital) -- enough to give you an idea of what to pick up for quick reading over the coming month.
We also have our usual selection of book reviews, movie reviews, and be sure to check out our US Books Column. Not every book we receive in our office gets reviewed but every book does get listed in our US Books column for the month of publication, and there's some very interesting books coming out in July.
Due to some personal medical issues that I'm dealing with this month, there will be a few of my reviews added to the issue over the next several days as the brain fog clears and I can actually write coherent sentences that will actually convey a thought clearly or moderately clearly. Seems I'm always running to catch up and this month more so than usual. This writing business is made a bit more chaotic since my 'r' key has decided to depress but not always type the letter. Evidently, the letter 'r' is extremely necessary for communication via the written word.
As always, feel free to let us know what you think using the comment forms at the bottom of this editorial or the article or review that spurs the thought you want to express.
Now for our usual announcements.
While we're happy to have a core of great reviewers for SFRevu, we get more books each month than we've got readers for and we'd like to have more. If you have a great desire to review SF/Fantasy for no pay but the glory of a byline, write to us at editor (at) sfrevu.com telling us a bit about yourself and send a 500 word (or so) review of a book that you have recently read (or a link to a review you have written). We should be able to get back to you within the month. (Please let us know what country you reside in -- the cost of mailing books outside the US/Canada may be an issue.)
We have a monthly news column. If you have a news item or announcement that you think would be of interest to readers of SF, send to: editor (at) sfrevu.com.
We'd like to maintain a convention calendar at our magazine. We've made a start. However, we don't have time to scour the Internet looking for what's happening in the SF/Fantasy arena. Please send us your convention listings. Send to: editor (at) sfrevu.com with the link to the convention website, dates of the convention, where it is held, perhaps a contact person.
Letters to the Editor(s):
We'd like to hear from you ... yes, you. What do you think of our magazine? How could we make it better? Do you like our reviews? Did you have a different opinion than our reviewer? What are your thoughts on the SF and Fantasy and their subgenres? Write to us at editor (at) sfrevu.com.
Publishers Take Note:
Material sent to us will be listed in our books-received column and may also be commented on or reviewed. With few exceptions, material not sent will not be listed or reviewed. Please send materials to SFRevu c/o Gayle Surrette, 16440 Baden Westwood Road, Brandywine, MD 20613.
We're often asked and yes, we do take small press books. Not all books we receive get reviewed but all are listed in our US Books column or UK Books column.
Media People Take Note:
It's rather difficult to review newly released DVDs or other media when we don't get a copy. So, if you'd like us to review something, send material to SFRevu c/o Gayle Surrette, 16440 Baden Westwood Road, Brandywine, MD 20613.
