Malcolm Danvers wants to be let back in the North American Pack. No one is happy about his request, but since the Pack is changing the rules they have to treat this request seriously. Acting on the adage, keep your friends close but, keep your enemies closer, they allow him in after negotiating some very strict terms that he'll have to abide by.
Werewolves tend to keep to their family groups. Like most families, some are better than others. Davis Cain had his first change late and it did more than establish him as a werewolf. Davis had to quit college and move in with his uncle and cousin. It's not a comfortable fit for him as the Cains have not been without their problems in staying on the good side of the Pack. Davis had been told never to contact the Pack, but when he came home unexpectedly and found his uncle and cousin missing and couldn't reach any of the other branches of the Cain family - he had no choice.
Someone is killing werewolves. The killings are brutal and evidence points to a supernatural being involved. The Pack may not like the Cains but they have to find these killers and put a stop to the murders and to the people or person who is responsible. To do that they also need to figure out what the motivation is for the killings. Is it all werewolves, or only the Cains?
It starts a bit slow setting up the basic background for the story, with Malcolm returning to the Pack, and with some background on Davis Cain and his relations. Once you get into the story, it's hard to put it down. The action is intense and the gathering of clues unveils some pretty nasty secrets.
An action packed thriller that has an underlying thread of family and relationships, and how they shape the people involved. The story is also illustrated, giving readers a chance to put faces to the people they're reading about.
