For as long as I can remember, coloring book have been for children. I loved them as a child, helped color them with my child as a mother, and I'm pleased to see the publication of more coloring books for adults. George R.R. Martin's Official A Game of Thrones Coloring Book is a beautiful addition to this growing trend.
The book is set up with a quote or scene description on each left hand page and the right hand page being a full sized complex outline drawing that fits the passage on the left. There's no blank margins around the drawing. The drawings themselves -- as you can see from the cover image above -- are complex and I'd advise using colored pencils, something with a finer point than crayons, to fill in the pictures.
The quotes and scene descriptions are from: A Game of Thrones, A Clash of Kings, A Storm of Swords, A Dance with Dragons, and A Feast for Crows. And indeed there are a few pictures with dragons.
The book begins with nine pages that concentrate on the motto or sayings of various houses or groups. These drawings are a bit less complex but still interesting.
The book ends with a short bio of George R.R. Martin and shorter bios of each of the five artists who contributed to this book: John Howe, Levi Pinfold, Adam Stower, Yvonne Gilbert, and Tomislav Tomić.
So, let loose your creative side and enjoy coloring these lovely drawings. This book would also make a great gift to any fan of George R.R. Martin's fantasy series.
NOTE: For full disclosure, I haven't yet had time to read the books in this series though they are in my TBR pile -- too many great books to little time.
