For as long as I can remember, coloring book have been for children. I loved them as a child, helped color them with my child as a mother, and I'm pleased to see the publication of more coloring books for adults. The Official Outlander Coloring Book is a beautiful addition to this growing trend.
The book is set up with a quote or scene description on each left hand page and the right hand page being a full sized complex outline drawing that fits the passage on the left. All of the descriptive passages and quotes come from Diana Gabaldon's Outlander. There's no blank margins around the drawing. The drawings themselves -- as you can see from the cover image above -- are complex and I'd advise using colored pencils, something with a finer point than crayons, to fill in the pictures.
I loved the book when it came out, and enjoyed the history and characters immensely. Having watched the first season of Outlander just this past month, I was interested in seeing what the coloring book would be like.
The outlined artwork is complex and matches the scenes in the book and my memory landscape when I first read the book. If you've seen the video/TV season, you won't find any of the art work jarring either.
Again, I will say because of the complexity of the artwork, I'd advise using colored pencils rather than crayons to fill in the art. Definitely use something with a finer point so you have more control.
This is a chance to once again enjoy letting your creative side shine with an adult coloring book. It would also make a great gift to fans of the Outlander series.
