Welcome to a new year, a new month, and a new issue of SFRevu. Don't forget to write the new year, 2016, whenever asked for a year -- I tend to forget for most of the month of January. In putting together the January 2016 issue, I wrote 2016 so often that I ended up going back to change it to 2015 because I was a little too eager for 2016 to begin.
I'm hoping that 2016 will be filled with plenty of opportunity to read, relax, and learn new skills, listen to new ideas, gain wisdom, and try harder to whittle down my To Do list and my To Be Read stack. Less illness and more energy would be a bonus for all of us -- or so I would imagine.
I'd like to thank all our readers for taking the time to read SFRevu each month, especially those who take the time to comment or send in suggestions. We do read all those comments and suggestions and we're even working behind the scenes to implement a few of them. Time -- everything comes down to time.
Now for our regular announcements:
While we're happy to have a core of great reviewers for SFRevu, we get more books each month than we've got readers for and we'd like to have more. If you have a great desire to review SF/Fantasy for no pay but the glory of a byline, write to us at editor (at) sfrevu.com telling us a bit about yourself and send a 500 word (or so) review of a book that you have recently read (or a link to a review you have written). We should be able to get back to you within the month. (Please let us know what country you reside in -- the cost of mailing books outside the US/Canada may be an issue.)
We have a monthly news column. If you have a news item or announcement that you think would be of interest to readers of SF, send to: editor (at) sfrevu.com.
We'd like to maintain a convention calendar at our magazine. We've made a start. However, we don't have time to scour the Internet looking for what's happening in the SF/Fantasy arena. Please send us your convention listings. Send to: editor (at) sfrevu.com with the link to the convention website, dates of the convention, where it is held, perhaps a contact person.
Letters to the Editor(s):
We'd like to hear from you ... yes, you. What do you think of our magazine? How could we make it better? Do you like our reviews? Did you have a different opinion than our reviewer? What are your thoughts on the SF and Fantasy and their subgenres? Write to us at editor (at) sfrevu.com.
Publishers Take Note:
Material sent to us will be listed in our books-received column and may also be commented on or reviewed. With few exceptions, material not sent will not be listed or reviewed. Please send materials to SFRevu c/o Gayle Surrette, 16440 Baden Westwood Road, Brandywine, MD 20613.
We're often asked and yes, we do take small press books. Not all books we receive get reviewed but all are listed in our US Books column or UK Books column.
Media People Take Note:
It's rather difficult to review newly released DVDs or other media when we don't get a copy. So, if you'd like us to review something, send material to SFRevu c/o Gayle Surrette, 16440 Baden Westwood Road, Brandywine, MD 20613.
