Number 87 of Apex Magazine has stories by A. Merc Rustad, E.K. Wagner, and Alexis A. Hunter, poems by Mary Soon Lee, Peter Venable, Frank Tota, and Anton Rose, as well as other features.

Here we have the 87th issue of Apex Magazine, with 3 new stories, 1 reprint and other features.

The new fiction begins with "The Gentleman of Chaos" by A. Merc Rustad. -+- Our titular character has "assassinated thirteen kings, seventy-two princes, one thousand nobles, and five queens". Our narrator is a young woman trained by her older brother to guard him from the Gentleman when their father, the King, is murdered. Her brother as king is a monster but he has given her the name, She, and put a collar on her that makes her do his will. But there is a twist in this story that makes it just perfect.

The second new story is "I Remember Your Face" by E.K. Wagner. -+- Our narrator works in space but the call of a siren changes things. Lyrical.

The third new story is "Fall to Her" by Alexis A. Hunter. -+- Ket's parents were killed in a raid by government forces after some sort of apocalypse. Now, grown up and a rebel, she has an advantage in that her existence was never registered. She's been given the assignment to kill a man involved with her parents. But she has to give up something to do it. Good solid story.
