Here we have the 90th issue of Apex Magazine, with four new stories and other features.
The new fiction begins with "Every Winter" by E. Catherine Tobler. -+- The story opens with "Every winter, Halla rents the Villa Couloir on the banks of the Ruisseau de Rieu Ferré for its quiet, its darkness" and goes on to tell us what her purpose in doing so is. It would be pointless to describe the story much further, it simply must be read for its beautiful, lyrical quality.
The second new story is "When She Comes" by Onu-Okpara Chiamaka. -+- "Ozokandu, the greatest witch-doctor in all the ten kingdoms" faces Death. Beautifully written.
The third new story is "The Island in the Attic" by Natalia Theodoridou. -+- A story impossible to summarize that seems to concern escape, loss, and transformation. Can't really say more.
The fourth new story is "After We Walked Away" by Erica L. Satifka. -+- A man and a woman, just called Cipher and Blank, leave the utopian Solved City for the hellish real world. But the utopia of the Solved City comes at a price. One child suffers the abuse of all. A chilling tale, told just perfectly. Brilliant.
