Here's the 84th issue of Lightspeed with stories by Tobias S. Buckell, Bruce McAllister, Seanan Mcguire, Susan Jane Bigelow, Adam-Troy Castro, Greg Hrbek, Kendra FortMeyer, and Amal El-Mohtar, along with other features.

Here's the 84th issue of Lightspeed, the online magazine. You can find the issue and how to pay (or not) for it at their website (see link at the top of this review). Here are my reviews of the original stories.

The first science fiction story is "This Is for You" by Bruce McAllister. -+- Our narrator is a boy who likes a girl in school. He has just got back from being on the planet Pitipek with his family. He learned how they do paintings there. So, he paints a picture for the girl. I won't say more, just that it's a good story.

The second science fiction story is "The Heart's Cartography" by Susan Jane Bigelow. -+- Jade, whose birth name was Jason, makes friends with Sally who has just moved across the road with her family. They are time-travelers and Sally admits to it. They forge a unique friendship. Beautifully done.

The first fantasy story is "James, in the Golden Sunlight of the Hereafter" by Adam-Troy Castro. -+- James and his wife and children are killed in a car crash but only he goes to Heaven. They are in Hell. Why? Because of rules that he can't understand. Naturally, he doesn't like this. Even though that sounds arbitrary, it does illustrate an interesting question. Can one be happy in Heaven if one's loved ones are not there?

The second fantasy story is "Octopus vs. Bear" by Kendra Fortmeyer. -+- A man wakes up in the body of a woman and explores the possibilities. He makes one wrong assumption. Interesting take on this idea.

Thatís the latest issue of Lightspeed. You can access the stories for free. Check out their website and support them, if you want to, in some way.
