Flash Fiction Online for December 2017 has new stories by Jennifer Haupt, John Wiswell, and Charity Tahmaseb, and a reprint story by Stewart C. Baker.

Flash Fiction Online is a website with very short stories, updated every month. These are reviews for the new stories in their December 2017 issue.

The first new story is "The Girl Waits" by Jennifer Haupt. -+- In Rwanda on April 14, 1994, a girl waits, huddled "under the frame of a stepladder tented with a blue tarp" and takes comfort in a spider spinning her web. A beautifully-told, poignant tale.

The second new story is "The First Stop is Always the Last" by John Wiswell. -+- Selma drives a bus and starts chatting up Miri who is her only passenger. This goes on more than once until it comes out right. Interesting.

The third new story is "Steadfast" by Charity Tahmaseb. -+- Poppy, a veteran of Afghanistan is the soldier and Carlos is her dancer in this modern-day retelling of Hans Christian Anderson's "The Steadfast Tin Soldier". Beautifully done.

By the time you read this, next month's issue might be up, but this month's Flash Fiction Online should still be available. Look for it as a back issue or read any older issue. Check them out and make a donation, if you wish, on their website (see link at the top of this review).
