As Dizeray is her only living relative, Jezebelle is determined to stop the sacrifice. When the two escape, they meet up with two very handsome barbarian brothers, and life starts looking up. But the village elders realize something has gone amiss with the sacrifice and come bumbling after.

As the party continues to elude their pursuers, two more join the group. One is the barbarians' troll-like brother and the other is a large blue wolf, Pumpkin. Pumpkin becomes Jezebelle's puppy, much to the chagrin of the barbarians, but he also proves helpful in unexpected ways.

Although Dizeray is portrayed as something close to the proverbial statuesque dumb blonde, Jezebelle is quick-witted and reasonably savvy. She manipulates her barbarian, her cousin, and eventually her wolf into assisting her attempts to win free from their pursuers and to start her own self-directed life.

This entertainment makes no attempt to be other than a light-hearted romp around the woods. Although said woods must be in someplace reasonably warm as no one seems to need to wear much clothing other than a loincloth (for the barbarians), a metallic bra (for Jezebelle) and some sort of modesty cover up (for the young women). This fantasy place appears mostly to be uninhabited woods and plains with some hills and caves, and of course, the defunct volcano into which the local virgins are sent to be sacrificed.

This book is such fun, I hope the author will write a similarly enjoyable sequel.
