Taking place almost immediately after the events of Priest 15: Dirge for the Unwanted, the bodies still strung up on the hanging tree, Evan Dudley is congratulating himself on ridding the town of misfits and freaks. But more trouble is coming and Dudley may have killed the town's only hope for survival.

The Order of Vertinez is coming to town, killing every man, woman and child in their path. They plan to cleanse the town of heresy and evil. There is no one to stand against these fanatics, or so it seems.

Again the artwork is stark black and white with hints of motion. Most of this volume involves fighting and at times I wanted to be able to flip pages and see the motion. I'd find myself darting from frame to frame because it seemed more like a movie than a book. But the art builds up the tension and tone of the narrative so that you feel for these people who haven't a clue about what they are facing or even what to do about it.

I came into the story with volume 15 so I've missed a lot of the back-story and character development. This volume, as with the last, has a 'story so far' section and a longer history where each volume's story is summed up in a paragraph in the back. There is also a list of major characters with a portrait and short biography. This is very helpful for many of the male characters have the same or similar chiseled features.

There's a strong story line about bigotry, racism, and fanaticism. What will happen and whether there is a possible chance of survival for the townspeople will be revealed, I hope, in later segments in the storyline. However, at the end of Zealot's March we are left wondering what will happen next.
