Captain Raptor and the Space Pirates
by Kevin O'MalleyCover Artist: Patrick O'Brien Review by Gayle Surrette Walker Books for Young Readers Hardcover ISBN/ITEM#: 9780802795717 Date: 21 August 2007 List Price $16.95 Amazon US / Amazon UK Links: Publisher's Webpage / Show Official Info /
Over-sized and in full color on high quality paper, this is a wonderful tongue in cheek tale of dinosaurs in space will all the general baggage of humanity -- oops dinosaurity. The drawings are lovely with some interesting detail in the background that probably would go unnoticed unless you take a close look. Just how would a T.Rex load cargo? While adults will get a genuine chuckle out of the story, I can imagine the joy of reading it to a small child. There's even some right hand pages that end with serial cliffhanger questions that present a great spot to stop and discuss the story or put out the light until tomorrow (even though the book is short enough to read in one sitting). Whether you have children or not, take a bit of time to check out Captain Raptor and his crew. You must know some child in need of a book...who'd think space faring dinosaurs are way cool especially if they kept the pirates in check. So blast off into the cosmos, brave terrifying nebulae, go cannon to cannon with the bad guys, and remember that, at least in pulp serials, the good guys always win in the end. |
