Niko Kanzaki gets the opportunity of a lifetime when her older brother Atchan becomes a professor at the prestigious (and expensive!) St. Lunatic High School. Atchan teaches the night classes, and his little sister, the school's latest charity case, is allowed to attend the classes he teaches. St. Lunatic High is one of those "special" two-track schools. The day classes are for human students and the night track is for demon children, who want a good education too!

Niko and Atchan move into their new home on campus, and the chaos begins. In this humorous, lightly romantic manga, Niko's classmates are mostly just like her. They eat lunch, go to school, and want to be friends. When I say mostly like her, some of her classmates are walking skeletons, eye balls are on the lunch menu, wings and eye patches are standard accessories, and the school nurse is a mermaid. Think that's crazy? Just wait till you meet the school chairman.

The chapters in St. Lunatic High School Volume I follow Niko as she is getting used to her new surroundings and trying to make friends. Her most human-looking classmate is the handsome Renkun. At first, Niko believes he is human, but she soon learns his secrets. A few chapters later, we meet a mysterious man in a rabbit suit (yes, a rabbit suit -- he hides in the forest), who helps Niko escape from some pranking demons. Who is this man, what is his relationship to the school, and why is Renkun so mad at him?

In Niko's next adventure, she finds out she isn't Renkun's only admirer. He's got another human girl after him, and Hinagiku won't take no for an answer until she finds Renkun. Thinking he's pulling a harmless prank, Renkun shows Hinagiku his demon nature, with humorous yet disastrous results. With the burgeoning relationship between Niko and Renkun, and the insane lifestyle of the school's chairman, I'm curious to see where Majiko takes this storyline.

St. Lunatic High School is a light, fun, well-drawn manga. The chapter openers feature a more artistic and Gothic style, which unfortunately doesn't continue past the chapter cover pages. This new series will be attractive to manga fans who enjoy school romance series focusing on the day-to-day life of the teenagers, such as Paradise Kiss, Ouran High School Host Club, Peach Girl, or Love Hina.
