As if Rachel didn't have enough problems with demons as she carries two demon marks and her aura is stained with demon smut. She wakes to find herself possessed and when she manages to force out the demon it's Newt who owns one of her demon marks. But Newt is insane and if it wasn't for Ceri, who managed to make a three layered protective circle for Rachel and herself, and forced Rachel to call up another demon, Minias, they might not have survived the encounter. Especially when Newt desanctified the church. Now a demon owes Rachel a favor and wears her mark. But then Al shows up wearing the body of Trent Kalamack's assistant Lee and wreaking havoc on Cincinnati. And that just the beginning, there's enough twists and turns to keep fans of the Hollow series turning pages into the wee hours.

More by Kim Harrison Dead Witch Walking
Every Which Way But Dead
The Good, the Bad, and the Undead
A Fistful of Charms
Dates From Hell (anthology with other authors)

Harrison has really pulled all the stops out in this one. Rachel, even more than in A Fist Full of Charms must face her own demons and do some introspective thinking about her life, her future, her friends, and family. She's still living with Ivy and their relationship is tense and formal. Her relationship with Kisten is becoming more intense but she doesn't understand much of his vampire world of ownerships and loyalties. Jenk's family is living with them and Matalina is ill so any damage to the church could be fatal to them come winter.

Cincinnati is also in the midst of a batch of seemingly random killings made to look like suicides. It's making everyone nervous, and then Rachel realizes that these deaths might be related to the sacred object in her freezer. And to top things off, it looks like a war is brewing between the various Were factions. And did I mention Kalamack is getting married and wants his number one enemy to help with security?

That's about all I can say without spoiler warnings. Do yourself a favor, don't start reading unless you have the time to finish it in one sitting because once you get into it the tension just keeps building up and there is no good place to stop for later reading. Pick a weekend and enjoy your all nighter because there are surprises, some laughs, some gotchas, and some heart-rending sadness. In other words, you have got to read this one…soon.
