Penny Barton, Marketing Director for and heiress to HyperTrans Railroad, arranges a special marketing trip on the company's new high-speed rail. Barton designs a trip for HyperTrans's investors that is both introduction to the twenty first centuries high-speed rail travel and a sneak peak at the adventure-filled, romantic, and sometimes dangerous – both physically and politically - rail travel of the 1850s. To ensure the investors get their money's worth, Barton hires actors in period costume, and dresses in 1850s garb herself. Her family has invested a great deal of energy and money in developing the new high-speed rail, and Penny is equally invested in providing an authentic historical experience for current and potential investors.

From official release/information:

From back of book: Hard-driving Penny Barton wants to succeed at all costs. She won't let a little thing like a phantom man derail her plans. Equally determined, Fletcher Dawe will complete his rail link on time despite sabotage and broken rails. When Penny meets him in the present aboard a steam train, she assumes he is an actor and finds him fascinating. Attracted to Penny, Fletcher, tells her he will call.

When Fletcher tries to renew his acquaintance with the beautiful stranger, he discovers no one is 1855, has ever heard of her. He abhors liars and cheats, no matter how attractive.

Ordered by her boss to find Fletcher for a client or resign, Penny also meets frustration. She can't locate him but while lunching at a local restaurant, she sees an 1855 photo of him. Researching the history of Fletcher and his railroad, she discovers the lockmaster, Dan Hudson, died to stop the train.

Set against the hostility between the canals and the new railroads, Train to Yesterday, a time travel romance, follows Fletcher and Penny as they struggle to save the railroad. Penny's efforts make her a target, and she must fight for her life.
