Personal Demon (Women of the Otherworld, Book 8)
by Kelley ArmstrongReview by Gayle Surrette Spectra Hardcover ISBN/ITEM#: 9780553806618 Date: 25 March 2008 List Price $20.00 Amazon US / Amazon UK / Show Official Info / Personal Demon focuses on Hope Adams, a tabloid reporter who covers the weird and wacky beat. She's also half-demon -- looking for the rapture that feeding on chaos brings. At loose ends since Karl Marsten, werewolf and professional thief, walked out on her, Hope jumps at the chance to go undercover in Miami to check out a group that might be a threat to the Cortez Cabal.
Hope checked with Lucas Cortez and Paige Winterbourne before taking on the job. Lucas, even though he suspected his father was up to something, couldn't find any reason to stop Hope from taking on the task. However, Lucas and Paige didn't know about Hope's demon half. Of course, when people withhold information it means a simple job is usually going to turn out to be more complex and dangerous than it appears -- exciting for readers looking for page-turning action. For the last several books, Armstrong has spotlighted a character met in earlier books and given that character a chance to shine and readers the opportunity to learn more about this other world. Each book fleshes out the world, adding some new characters, reacquainting us with some of the older characters, and always entertaining. This is another series that manages to stay fresh even as the characters change and grow from book to book. While some of the background may be clearer to readers who have read the previous books, these books do stand fairly well alone. However, once you've read one and enjoyed it you'll probably want to start at the beginning and see how it all began.
