Hide and Seek: Nature's Best Vanishing Acts
by Andrea HelmanCover Artist: Photos: Gavriel Jecan Review by Gayle Surrette Walker Books for Young Readers Hardcover ISBN/ITEM#: 9780802796905 Date: 19 February 2008 List Price $16.95 Amazon US / Amazon UK / Show Official Info / It's often difficult to find introductory science books for very young children. Hide and Seek: Nature's Best Vanishing Acts just might be a good introduction for your budding naturalist. Many creatures in the wild use protective coloration to aid their ability to survive. Each page has a photo of an animal in its natural habitat and a short description of the environment in which it lives. Some animals are easier to find than others -- but that's okay, because there's a section at the end that shows you which section of the photo to concentrate on to find the animal. There's a lot of good solid science in this book as well as some interesting photos and a chance to play a game that's a bit more science-oriented than finding the cartoon character in a crowded city scene. Hopefully, the information and photos will whet the appetite for more books on biology, environment, and oceanography -- well, one can only hope.
