The extinct rule this world, and humans are an aberration. A pair of outdated U.S. destroyers may be the difference in the battle between the Lemurians and the Grik. As expected they are not the only ships to make it through the storm. The Japanese cruiser Amagi also came through the storm.

From back of book: Lt. Commander Matthew Reddy, along with the men and women of Walker, has chosen a side in a war not of his making. The crew has joined forces with the Lemurians--a mammalian race whose peaceful existence is under attack form the warlike reptilian Grik.

The Lemurians are vastly outnumbered and ignorant of warfare, and even the guns and technology of Walker cannot turn the tide of the battle. Luckily Reddy find Mahan, the other destroyer that passed through the rift. Together, the troops on the two American ships will teach the Lemurians to stand and fight against the bloodthirsty Grik. Or so they think.

For there is another vessel that does not belong on these strange seas--the massive Japanese battle cruiser Amagi, the very ship Walker was fleeing when the rift too it. Like Mahan, Amagi folled the Walker -- and now Amagi is in the hands of the Grik...
