The old and the new. We've got a bit of both this month -- reviews of new books in continuing series, reviews of new books by new authors, reviews of first books in a series, and a first for us, an essay on SF Poetry Essay and examples by Mike Allen. Ernest Lilley and Colleen Cahill interviewed Jay Lake about his latest book, Escapement (which Colleen reviewed for us this month). Also John Jos. Miller talked about his newest project, Wild Cards: A Mutants & Masterminds Campaign Setting with Drew Bittner. We've also got a great set of reviews from John Berlyne (our UK Editor), Sam Tomaino (our Short Fiction/ezine reviewer), and our usual great line up of reviewers. There's our usual columns including News, Manga/Graphic Novels, Events Calendar, and Media. I hope you enjoy our August issue, please let us know via our feedback form what we can do to become a better resource for our readers. Just a reminder, we do our best to keep up with news, convention schedules, and other noteworthy events but with a small staff, we really need you to let us know when things are happening. You'll probably notice that we do list obituaries when we hear of them but, to be perfectly frank, writing them up really depresses me and there have been so many lately that I haven't been able to keep up -- so help me out. If there's a obituary you want noted in our news column send it to me so I don't have to make it up from scratch, as I feel guiltier and guiltier for not personally knowing this great person who is no longer with us. Not to belittle their deaths but shouldn't great writers and wonderful fans be, well, immortal -- in the same why that they're always vibrant and active in my mind?
