The old and the new. We've got a bit of both this month -- reviews of new books in continuing series, reviews of new books by new authors, reviews of first books in a series, and a first for us, an essay on SF Poetry Essay and examples by Mike Allen.

Ernest Lilley and Colleen Cahill interviewed Jay Lake about his latest book, Escapement (which Colleen reviewed for us this month). Also John Jos. Miller talked about his newest project, Wild Cards: A Mutants & Masterminds Campaign Setting with Drew Bittner.

We've also got a great set of reviews from John Berlyne (our UK Editor), Sam Tomaino (our Short Fiction/ezine reviewer), and our usual great line up of reviewers. There's our usual columns including News, Manga/Graphic Novels, Events Calendar, and Media. I hope you enjoy our August issue, please let us know via our feedback form what we can do to become a better resource for our readers.

Just a reminder, we do our best to keep up with news, convention schedules, and other noteworthy events but with a small staff, we really need you to let us know when things are happening. You'll probably notice that we do list obituaries when we hear of them but, to be perfectly frank, writing them up really depresses me and there have been so many lately that I haven't been able to keep up -- so help me out. If there's a obituary you want noted in our news column send it to me so I don't have to make it up from scratch, as I feel guiltier and guiltier for not personally knowing this great person who is no longer with us. Not to belittle their deaths but shouldn't great writers and wonderful fans be, well, immortal -- in the same why that they're always vibrant and active in my mind?

Now for our regularly scheduled messages:

Reviewers Wanted:
While we're happy to have a core of great reviewers for SFRevu, we get more books each month than we've got readers for and we'd like to have more. If you have a great desire to review SF/Fantasy for no pay but the glory of a byline, write to us at editor (at) telling us a bit about yourself and send a 500 word (or so) review of a book that you have recently read. We should be able to get back to you within the month.

News Column:
We started a News column last month. If you have a news item or announcement that you think would be of interest to readers of SF, send to: editor (at)

Convention Calendar:
We'd like to add a convention calendar to our magazine. We've made a start. However, we don't have time to scour the Internet looking for what's happening in the SF/Fantasy arena. Please send us your convention listings. Send to: editor (at)

Letters to the Editor(s):
We'd like to hear from you ... yes, you. What do you think of our magazine? How could we make it better? Do you like our reviews? What are your thoughts on the SF and Fantasy and their subgenres? Write to us at editor (at)

Publishers Take Note:
Material sent to us will be listed in our books-received column and may also be commented on or reviewed. With few exceptions, material not sent will not be listed or reviewed. Please send materials to SFRevu c/o Gayle Surrette, 16440 Baden Westwood Road, Brandywine, MD 20613. Or if you publish in the UK or Europe send to: John Berlyne c/o SFRevu, 8 Elm Grove, Sale, Cheshire, M33 7JY, United Kingdom.

Media People Take Note:
It's rather difficult to review newly released DVDs or other media when we don't get a copy. So, if you'd like us to review something, send material to SFRevu c/o Gayle Surrette, 16440 Baden Westwood Road, Brandywine, MD 20613. Media publishers in the UK or Europe send to: John Berlyne c/o SFRevu, 8 Elm Grove, Sale, Cheshire, M33 7JY, United Kingdom.
