Set in the period between Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones and Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, Star Wars: The Clone Wars follows Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Master Yoda, Mace Windu, and the rest of the Jedi as they find themselves having to adjust to their new role as generals for the Clone Army. Anakin Skywalker who has always been headstrong now has to make adjustments since he has been assigned 14-year-old Ahsoka Tano as his first Padawan learner. Almost immediately she begins to call him "Skyguy" and he responds by calling her "Snips" since she is a little bit snippy toward him. While we don't know for certain why Ahsoka was assigned to Anakin, it is quite probably because the Jedi Council concluded that she would test the patience of more conventional Jedi masters. They also probably hoped that this Padawan might temper his impetuousness and by extension hers at the same time...
My one regret is that I was unable to get my hands on a copy of Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2 Disc Special Edition), but Star Wars: The Clone Wars (Widescreen Edition) is a decent substitute. I confess to feeling a touch of disappointment when all I saw was a single Special Feature: Commentary by Director Dave Filoni, Producer Catherine Winder, Writer Harry Gilroy, and Editor Jason W.A. Tucker. My disappointment vanished instantly once I began viewing this feature and discovered that it was a copy of the entire movie with running commentary laid over the audiotrack. You now see the movie through the eyes of its creators and hear the original audio faintly in the background. Among other things they talk about is the pressure, the deadlines, and the long days involved in working on the film, but now they're relaxing and unwinding from the stress.
If you enjoyed this film in the theater, you'll enjoy it even more in the comfort of your home where you can actually hear what the characters are saying. I wholeheartedly recommend this edition or better yet, the 2-Disc Special Edition.
