Decker Argeneau, an enforcer for the Council, is on vacation. Well, he was until he agreed to help hunt down a rogue vampire. The problem was that the rogue wasn't a rogue, but a victim of a vengeful paper-pusher at the blood bank. But in the process, they learn that Nicolas, a rogue Decker has been hunting for years, is in the area. So all thoughts of vacation fly out the window and the hunt is on.
However, since this book is by Lynsay Sands, you know that romance is going to come into the story pretty rapidly, and someone is more than likely going to find their lifemate. You'd be correct as that seems to be a standard plot thread of these books -- they are billed as paranormal romances after all. But, you might not realize that there's also going to be a rather tightly plotted mystery that's going to tie up some threads from previous books and lay down some threads for coming novels.
Once they head out to find Nicolas Argeneau, things go rapidly out of control. They find Nicolas only to learn that he's been waiting for them because he's tracked down a nest of rogues that need to be taken down before they kill again, and they've already kidnapped their victims. With no time to lose, Decker teams with Nicolas but in the ensuing battle, Nicolas gets away, one of the victims is used as a hostage, and things get complicated.
Sands' books are entertaining, action-packed, and filled with interesting characters, crisp sassy dialogue, and humor. Vampires, good versus evil, romance, humor, and good writing -- what more do you need to give it a try?
