Disney Animation Collection Volumes 1-6: 1: Mickey and the Beanstalk 2: Three Little Pigs 3: The Prince and the Pauper 4: The Tortoise and the Hare 5: Wind in the Willows 6: The Reluctant Dragon

By far my favorite cartoon in Volume 1 is "Mickey And The Beanstalk", the main feature narrated by the incomparable Professor Ludwig von Drake and Herman the Cricket. A reinterpretation of "Jack and the Beanstalk", the role of Jack is filled by Mickey Mouse and accompanied by Goofy and Donald Duck, this is 29 minutes, 25 seconds of pleasure.

"Brave Little Tailor" is an amusing short where a naive Mickey ends up up having to use his unlikely skills to try to subdue a giant.

"Thru The Mirror" is a less than inspiring version of Through the Looking-Glass, the sequel to Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.

In "Gulliver Mickey", we see Uncle Mickey entertaining a group of his nephews by telling them the story of Gulliver in the land of the Lilliputians. I was somewhat surprised to see a giant-sized Mickey as a bit of a big bully until he confronts a giant spider, the only other creature as big as he is.

"Mr. Mouse Takes A Trip" is a tale of how Mickey and Pluto try to outwit Pete the bullying train conductor as they try to travel from Burbank to Pomona.

I have to confess my disappointment in the very uneven quality of the audio and video from one feature to the next. The best were "Mickey And The Beanstalk" and "Mr. Mouse Takes A Trip", while "Thru The Mirror" was the most enjoyable to watch.

Hopefully Disney takes all 6 volumes, restores them equally to a pristine state, and releases them as a Special Edition set in DVD and Blu-ray.
