Bloody Good
by Georgia EvansReview by Mel Jacob Kensington Paperback ISBN/ITEM#: 9780758234810 Date: 01 June 2009 List Price $6.99 Amazon US / Amazon UK / Show Official Info / The new paranormal trilogy by Georgia Evans features Nazi vampires, Pixies, Dragons, Werefoxes, and Others with special abilities. Alice Doyle, a country doctor, has always denied her Gran's assertions of her Pixie heritage. However, when the man she loves is threatened by a vampire, she must draw on powers she didn't know she possessed.
Set in England, in World War II, Bloody Good follows Alice, her beau Peter Watson, and four Nazi vampires. The vampires intend to destroy the local munitions factory and sap British morale. When Alice finds a mysterious injured man in Fletcher's Woods, she ministers to his injuries and manages to get him to her car. Once home, she seeks help to move the now unconscious man to her surgery and calls for an ambulance. By the time it arrives the man has disappeared. Alice's grandmother and her friend retired Sergeant Howell Pendragon recognize the dangers they face. They must identify the vampire and isolate him. At first Alice can't believe Nazi spies live in the remote village. However, after a bombing raid, authorities find a radio used to send information to Germany in the home of a retired schoolteacher. Then mysterious deaths occur. Animals and people die drained of blood. Trained as doctor, Alice dismisses the idea of vampires until one attacks Peter. Forced to reconsider the situation, she gradually accepts the idea of vampires existing and acting as Nazi spies. A narrowly averted attack on the munitions factory raises the stakes. The author, born in Britain, works hard to establish a sense of place and the difficulties of war. Some readers will enjoy the hot sex between Alice and Peter. Others may skip such scenes and concentrate on the hunt for the Nazi vampires. The novel received a starred review from Publisher's Weekly.
